Job Description

Tremco's Commercial Sealants and Waterproofing (CS&W) division is seeking a Design Engineer. The Design Engineer is responsible for supporting Sales Representatives and Marketing by providing Technical and Engineering assistance on the use of Extruded Rubber Products (ERP).


  • Support customer (Consultants, Contractors, Architects) inquiries regarding glazing systems.
  • Develop conceptual drawings to initiate design dialogue; make appropriate design recommendations as it relates to gasket and glazing systems.
  • Design gaskets using 2D and 3D AutoCAD
  • Communicate design needs and preferences; prepare written and verbal recommendations including compound/durometer recommendations.
  • Coordinate with the Ashland plant to determine manufacturability of designs.
  • Provide quality control and quality assurance; determine whether the manufactured product meets design needs.
  • Participate in the die trial phase to approve or deny a part’s quality/functionality.
  • Work with applicable departments to diagnose product errors or malfunctions and communicate resolutions to the Sales Representative and customer.
  • Troubleshoot on-site product errors as necessary.
  • Attend manufacturing production meetings to discuss quoting of part and provide input on level of difficulty for production.
  • Lead or participate in project teams to provide departmental/design engineering expertise.
  • Participate in industry association meetings (i.e. AAMA, GANA, IGMA) and provide input and experiences in to assist in setting standards and developing protocols.
  • Understanding of all, and specialization in 1 of the 3 product tiers:

1. 3D printing- able to operate the 3D printer and post-process the parts upon completion of printing

2. Rubber Extrusion – able to design functioning gaskets

3. Engineered Transition Assemblies (ETA) – able to understand architectural/shop drawings with the ability create sequence with a focus on critical connections.


  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Construction, Architectural Engineering or similar field from four-year college or university is required.


Up to 2 years of prior working experience working in a manufacturing, construction or similar environment preferred.


  • Solid knowledge of mechanical/architectural drafting.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.
  • Must have experience with interpreting engineering drawings and blueprint reading.
  • Working knowledge of project management preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and coordinate decisions in a cross-functional environment. 
  • Strong attention to detail.


  • Proficiency in Auto CAD 2D and 3D is required.
