Job Description

Tremco’s Commercial Sealants and Waterproofing division is seeking a Plant Manager at our Ashland, Ohio facility. The Plant Manager manages daily production operations to meet production schedules, product standards and operational costs. Ensures supply chain execution in the provision of finished goods. Establishes operating policies and procedures to achieve compliance, production schedules, product Quality Standards and operational cost targets.


  • Ensures the safety of staff and equipment in accordance with the North American Manufacturing Safety Program.
  • Ensures that all activities are in compliance with policies & procedures.
  • Ensures that staff is adequately trained and that all training is up to date.
  • Develops strategies that ensure effective achievement of Lean Manufacturing objectives.
  • Works with senior management to ensure manufacturing goals are consistent with strategic direction.
  • Manages employees, either directly or indirectly, who are involved in the scheduling, implementation, execution and/or maintenance of lean manufacturing processes and operations.
  • Determines organizational objectives and defines structure.
  • Undertakes long and short-term planning and supervision of projects.
  • Defines necessary resources to meet schedules and product delivery commitments.
  • Oversees the application of standard lean methodologies in development of efficient manufacturing strategies.
  • Oversees, either directly or indirectly, investigations of labor, cost and process variances and deviations.
  • Participates in the development, revision and accuracy of production plan.
  • Responsible for the annual budget and quarterly forecasting processes.
  • Manages the facility to ensure team members achieve their potential and the teams meet their goals.
  • Leads the manufacturing Team to excellent performance through a structured lean manufacturing system with the use of Operational Excellence tools.
  • Ensures that the environmental requirements are complied with in their project team by providing the necessary resources, visualizations and training, as well as the necessary supervision.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity in hiring and promotion decisions. 
  • Effectively and efficiently on-boards new employees. 
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations and provides ongoing performance feedback, maintaining clear and timely documentation. 
  • Coaches and manages employees using CS&W philosophy and tools to ensure talent is developed and retained. 
  • Applies Tremco policies and adheres to processes to ensure compliance and organizational best practices.


  • Bachelor’s Degree required (Engineering preferred)


  • A minimum of 3 years’ management experience of a site or manufacturing functional area required.
  • The following is preferred:
    • Previous experience in a Plant Manager role
    • Experience with shift operations in a specialty chemical plant environment


  • SAP/ERP experience, Lean/6 Sigma experience preferred


  • Ability to consider the relative costs, long-term employee impact, and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Ability to assess a situation and mediate the issue to ensure a constructive outcome.
  • Ability to establish a Lean culture focused on continuous improvement
  • Experience with David Mann Lean Management System preferred (Tier meetings and constraints, removal of Team Leader position, Gemba walks, overall Leadership Team /Supervisor Lean development)
  • Familiarization with Value Stream, Bottlenecks, Workflow, Skill Sets. Development and execution of overall Lean Plan preferred


  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental, SOX, and workplace regulations.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, statistics, “Lean” concepts, ISO procedures, and their applications.  Ability to apply excel, word, and SAP applications to daily job responsibilities.
