Tremco’s Commercial Sealants and Waterproofing division is seeking a Senior Chemist II to support the Dryvit product line in West Warwick, Rhode Island. The individual will demonstrate competency and growth in regard to adaptability, initiative, resourcefulness, communication, collaboration and accountability as they develop, improve or maintain Tremco’s products and systems to grow sales and market share.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Chemistry product line responsibility of Tremco’s core formulations and assists manufacturing to ensure quality products and processes.
  • Develops new products and processes to deliver solutions.
  • Develops product that complement one another to deliver high performance solutions.
  • Understands product use and application, and designs experimentation to demonstrate components of Tremco value proposition.
  • Delivers documented solution that address general business, product or process requests.
  • Developing project plans to map agreed scope of work and committed timelines.
  • Monitors work results for themselves and creates experimental course of action.
  • Executes multiple project plan tasks and experimentation.
  • Develop ideas and solutions and prove or disprove concepts.
  • Gains consensus on their ideas and concepts to forge these into fruition.
  • Uses knowledge of key testing protocol and designs appropriate testing methodology.
  • Uses knowledge of product applicators and use, then methodology that can impact project outcomes.
  • Interacts with adjacent departments and customers and offers solutions.
  • Uses chemical and field experiences to create product solutions.
  • Maintains laboratory notebook to standard.
  • Maintains monthly updates and technical reports for supervisor discussing project progression and next steps.
  • Presents work and subject matter internally and externally.
  • Prepares conclusive technical reports and communicates next steps.
  • Authors or Coauthors work for publication.
  • Performs tasks and duties as a core member in PPOG, raw material evaluation and product audits.
  • Submits and collaborates on ideas and concepts in innovation processes such as SPARK.
  • Activity participates in departmental initiatives such as KPIs, MAD index, housekeeping and small k’s.
  • Guides work within R&D, and with outside departments to scope concepts, ideas and technology.
  • Performs and reports all work for themselves, assuring it is consistent with scientific methodology and standards.
  • Performs assignments and leads assignments as agreed upon in project plans and standard work.
  • Report results and adjust priorities to accommodate commitments.
  • Secures all resources and materials needed for timely workflow.
  • High level of self- management and begins assisting in their development.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Chemical Engineering and eight years of experience
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Chemical Engineering and four years of experience
  • PhD degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Chemical Engineering and no experience

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Chemical Engineering and eight years of experience
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Chemical Engineering and four years of experience
  • PhD degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Chemical Engineering and no experience

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Senior Chemist II must work safety within an industrial chemical laboratory, manufacturing location and in the field. This includes the safe handling of all chemicals commonly found in industrial labs (acids, bases, oxidizers, reducers, compressed gasses and hazardous materials), the safe operation of all mechanical processing equipment, and the safe operation of physical testing equipment.  They also must lead by example and assure others are following safe work protocols.
